Actors who admitted to belonging to the LGBT community

If even 10 years ago, the coming-out of a favorite actor or actress could cause surprise among many fans, now few people will be surprised by belonging to the LGBT community. We prepared an article in which we gathered 50 of the most famous representatives of the LGBT+k community, who had the courage to reveal their status and were not afraid of losing fans.

Elliot Page

In 2014, actor Elliot Page, who has been in a number of films including Inception, Juno, Hard Candy, and others, made a dramatic statement about coming out. He wed Emma Portner in 2018, and they were married in 2021. In December 2020, Page revealed that he is transgender. He was the first openly transgender man to grace the cover of Time.

Kristen Stewart

Bella Swan's primary character in The Twilight Saga, Kristen Stewart, was one of the cast members who frequently faced criticism. The role made her and her co-star, Robert Pattinson, household names and even sparked a romance between them. She later admitted that she is bi.

Neil Patrick Harris

Few people haven't at least once in a while watched some How I Met Your Mother. Without a doubt, one of the most enduring characters is Barney Stinson.

The sleazy character is portrayed by outstanding actor Neil Patrick Harris. The actor said, "I am a gay man living my life to the fullest and feel most fortunate to be working with wonderful people in the business I love."

Jodie Foster

Since 2014, Jodie Foster has been legally wed to actress Alexandra Hedison. In 1991, the actress was questioned in the media for the first time about her sexual orientation, but she didn't respond right away. She wouldn't publicly come out until she gave a speech at the 2013 Golden Globe Awards.

Zachary Quinto

Quinto came out in 2011 and said he felt it was important to be open about his sexual orientation in order to advance equality.

Cynthia Nixon

One of the sitcoms that was successful for the entire run was Sex and the City, featuring Cynthia Nixon as Miranda Hobbes. 

Cynthia Nixon and Christine Marinoni have been a happy couple since 2012. She used to identify as bi but has recently indicated she now considers herself queer.

Jonathan Bennett

Any Mean Girls fan will tell you that Aaron Samuels is Regina George's ex-boyfriend and the love interest of Cady Heron.

The role was played by Jonathan Bennett, an actor who in 2017 formally announced his relationship with Jaymes Vaughn.

Jonathan Bailey

Another Shonda Rhimes project that has drawn everyone into the story is Jonathan Bailey Bridgerton. The series is famed for its love tales even without anything else.

Viscount Anthony Bridgerton was portrayed by Jonathan Bailey. When questioned about playing a straight character, the actor replied, "Good actors can do anything," highlighting how important it is for queer performers to have access to LGBT roles. He described his previous characters as being different from him.

Matt Bomer 

In the program, Bomer portrays the thief and con artist Neal Caffrey. In actuality, Bomer married publicist Simon Hills in 2011, and only came out to the world in 2012. In 2014, the couple's marriage was made public. They are parents of three children. They also spend a significant amount of time assisting the LGBTQ+ community.

Jane Lynch

Steve Carrell has produced a number of comedies, including The 40-Year-Old Virgin. He typically takes a sizable group of comics with him.

In this case, Jane Lynch joined the project to play Paula, a character who approaches Andy regularly. In terms of her genuine romantic past, Jane Lynch had dated Lara Embry before they got married in 2010. However, they formally ended their relationship in 2014.

Rosie O'Donnell 

In the 1994 motion picture The Flintstones, Betty Rubble was portrayed by none other than Rosie O'Donnell. She came out as a lesbian while performing at Caroline's Comedy Club in 2002 to raise money for ovarian cancer research.

Jonathan Groff 

Everyone has heard of Glee, the musical comedy-drama that aired from 2009 to 2015. In addition to the main cast, viewers got to see a range of renowned personalities and guest stars on the show during the full season. Jonathan Groff, who has garnered plaudits from critics, is one of them. He came out in 2009.

Billy Eichner

Billy Eichner is not the sort of person who prefers to live in public. It's doubtful that many viewers of his art are ignorant of his open gay orientation. Even yet, the actor kept playing parts that included heterosexual relationships.

Ricky Martin

You probably have seen one or more episodes of General Hospital. In such a case, even if you are unfamiliar with Miguel Morez, you might recognize Ricky Martin as him.

For Ricky Martin, his marriage to Jwan Yosef began in 2017. The artist came out publicly in 2010.

One of the great actors in The Connorsis is Sara Gilbert, who plays Darlene Conner. The actress was married to Linda Perry from 2014 until 2019 and they are parents of a son.

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga played a role in the movie A Star Is Born, and her partner was actor Bradley Cooper. And despite the fact that Gaga's character in the film was straight, the pop star revealed that she was bisexual in an interview with Barbara Walters in 2009.

Angelina Jolie

In 2003, Angelina Jolie said, "When I was 20, I fell in love with someone who just so happened to be a woman."

In a later interview, the bombshell asserted, "I was outspoken about my orientation because I wanted everyone to know that I was with a woman." However, the actor has been able to portray a variety of characters who fall in love with different people.

Kristian Nairn

The courteous and loyal servant of the Stark family who can only speak his own name, Hodor, is well-known to Game of Thrones viewers as played by actor Kristian Nairn. On the show, his persona and a woman named Osha have a romantic connection. Kristian didn't talk much about his orientation in real life, despite the fact that he was very open to discussing it. Nairn stated in a 2014 interview with Winteriscoming.net, "I have never hidden orientation from anyone, ever."

Victor Garber

The television roles of Martin Stein/Firestorm in The Flash and Jack Bristow in Alias have made Garber a household name. Garber has therefore appeared in a wide range of roles. The performer is openly gay. He wasn't precisely concealing his identity, but he didn't make this announcement until 2013.

Nathan Lane

For his portrayal of Gomez Addams in one presentation, Nathan Lane received praise. In terms of his personal life, Nathan Lane married Devlin Elliott in 2015. The actor came out in 1999 after being moved to speak up by Matthew Shepard's passing.

Luke Evans

Gaston was portrayed by Luke Evans in Beauty and the Beast film. The actor is quite discrete, yet he hasn't hidden his orientation.

Drew Barrymore

Since the late 1970s, Drew Barrymore has been a favorite of ours. Some of you might recognize her from Charlie's Angels, when she played Dylan Sanders, one of the numerous films she has featured in. She isn't afraid to tell the media that she has always considered herself as bi. "I like a woman's figure." I believe that a guy and a woman can be equally attractive when they are together.

Sir Ian McKellen

If you want a queer role model in Hollywood, Sir Ian McKellen is a great person. He has played numerous straight and LGBT parts.

For instance, he played Tsar Nicholas II in Rasputin: Dark Servant of Destiny. The actor came out to the public in 1988, and he has been very open about his orientation ever since. Since then, he has devoted a lot of time to promoting LGBTQ+ rights.

Charlie Carver 

Charlie Carver was Porter Scavo in the television series Desperate Housewives. In 2016 actor came out as gay in an Instagram post. In a later statement explaining his decision to go public, he said he was "ready to take on that conversation in a more public forum."

John Barrowman 

John Barrowman has a number of important roles over the years. He played Patrick Logan in the television series Desperate Housewives.

In 1993, the actor made his first contact with Scott Gill, his husband. Barrowman and Gill eventually created a civil partnership in 2006 before their 2013 legal marriage.

Sarah Paulson 

For her work in a number of genres, including horror and LGBT culture, Sarah Paulson has become increasingly well-known in recent years. She has, however, played many parts that are straight.

She portrayed Hannah Hayes in Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, for example, in a role that was somewhat based on Kristin Chenoweth but not exactly.

Raven-Symoné 

Raven-Symoné made her acting debut as Olivia Kendall on The Cosby Show when she was only four years old. She played a teenage character in That's So Raven. To put it gently, the actress appeared to be a little boy-crazy during the performance.

Although Raven prefers to remain anonymous, she actually participates in the same team in real life. She identifies as a "human who loves humans." She dated actress and model AzMarie Livingston from 2012 to 2015. In June 2020, she wed social media manager Miranda Maday.

Jim Parsons

Despite having a cast of well-known characters, the majority of fans associate the show with Sheldon Cooper.

This nerdy persona was embodied by Jim Parsons. On the sitcom, Sheldon eventually becomes close with Amy, who is portrayed by Mayim Bialik. In real life Parsons is married to Todd Spiewak.

Brandon Flynn

Reviews of 13 Reasons Why were mixed when it originally came out. 

Justin Foley was portrayed by the homosexual actor Brandon Flynn. This is still very early in Foley's career, which only started in 2016. Both in his private life and in his professional persona, Flynn is openly gay.

Miley Cyrus

Hannah Montana continues to be one of most well-known films. She had to maintain a certain image while she was on the well-known kids' channel, but after the show ended, things were different.

In 2015, Cyrus declared herself to be gender-fluid. Since then, she has developed into a strong advocate for a variety of LGBTQ+ issues. Her nonprofit, the Happy Hippie Foundation, focuses on young people from poor backgrounds and the LGBTQ+ community.

Gillian Anderson

Gillian Anderson has been gracing our television screens since the 1980s, and we love her! She co-starred with David Duchovny on The X-Files and as Margaret Thatcher in The Crown. In a 2015 interview in The Telegraph, Anderson, who normally plays straight roles, stated that she was open to having another same-gender relationship.

Aubrey Plaza

In Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, Aubrey Plaza played the role of Tatiana. Despite the fact that her part was straight, the actress revealed in a 2016 interview with The Advocate have deep affection for both genders.

Wanda Sykes

The comedian said that she was treated like a "unicorn" after coming out at a Proposition 8 demonstration in 2008 and stated that most lesbian and bi African Americans do not openly announce their LGBTQ+ status.

Since their 2008 wedding, Sykes and Alex have continued to give sold-out performances. In April 2009, the couple gave birth to their first child.

Marlon Brando

Marlon Brando was a legendary actor. Throughout his 60-year career, Brando's performances captivated audiences. The actor, who was well-known for having numerous female companions, acknowledged that he had had gay experiences and added, "I, like many other males, have had [gay] interactions and am not embarrassed about it.

Russell Tovey

Being Human, a creepy comedy-drama on the BBC, starred Russell Tovey. You may be aware that he plays werewolf George Sands. The actor is gay even though he portrays a straight man. Tovey battled as he grew up to accept his orientation, but at around the age of 15 or 16, he came out to himself.

Lee Pace

Lee Pace may come to mind because of his performance as Thranduil the Elvenking in the Hobbit trilogy. Pace had remained largely silent up until that point, but revealed his orientation in a June 2018 interview with the New York Times.

Amber Heard

Amber Heard, who played Aquaman in 2018, has been out as bi since she began dating the visual artist Tasya van Ree in 2010. Heard and Ree were together from 2008 through 2012. Heard is still working to ensure that all women, not just those who identify as LGBTQ+, have equal rights.

Demi Lovato

The term "Sorry Not Sorry" best describes Demi Lovato when it comes to expressing one's identity and orientation. Lovato has used her position to advocate for and draw attention to a number of causes, including the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals, since she rose to fame courtesy to her role as Mitchie Torres in Camp Rock.

Lovato talked on how difficult it was to come out to their parents but how supportive they were in return in an interview with Andy Cohen on his Sirius XM show. As of 2021, "they/them" will be the preferred pronoun, according to Lovato.

Andrew Scott

Many people fell in love with Andrew Scott after seeing him portray the priest in the British comedy series Fleabag. For his work, he received the Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.

In an interview with The Independent in 2013, he revealed his orientation to the public for the first time.

Rock Hudson

Hudson rose to fame for his performance as Brad Allen in the Doris Day-costarring film Pillow Talk. Despite the fact that he kept his sexual orientation hidden and unnoticeable, many people in the film industry were aware of it. Hudson was given an AIDS diagnosis in 1984, and the following year he passed very unexpectedly.

Wentworth Miller 

Prison Break viewers will recognize Wentworth Miller as Michael Scofield. The actor ultimately made the decision to depart the project after five seasons.

Prior to coming out in 2013, the actor initially denied having an orientation. Since coming out, Wentworth has taken a more active role in the fight for a number of causes, including LGBT+ equality.

Ben Whishaw

English actor Ben Whishaw performs in theater, movies, and television. In the late 1990s, he first entered the industry. For the bulk of his career, Ben has played straight roles, but in 2013, a spokeswoman announced the actor was married to musician Mark Bradshaw. The two met on the set of Jane Campion's Bright Star.

David Burtka

You might be familiar with the character David Burtka from How I Met Your Mother. He played Scooter, Lily's high school sweetheart, on screen. David Burtka has been openly gay his entire life. He has always been proud of his orientation.

The actor and Neil Patrick Harris have been married since 2014. On social media, they routinely share images of their family.

Anna Paquin 

X-Men star Anna Paquin was harassed by the LGBTQ+ community after coming out as bisexual in 2010 and being married to actor Stephen Moyer the following year. At the time, Paquin described the reaction to her coming out as "hateful."

When questioned about her sexual orientation, she responded, "I am a happily married person, and I married a male." It has no impact on any aspect of my existence.

Evan Rachel Wood

Evan Rachel Wood started her career in the entertainment industry as a young child. 

Wood publicly identifies as bi despite having had relationships with other men and/or been married to them. Wood herself acknowledged, “Yeah, I'm more kind of like the guy when it comes to girls.”

Matt Dallas

ABC Family, now known as Freeform, has created a lot of innovative concepts throughout the years. From 2006 through 2009, Kyle XY offered a fascinating science-fiction idea.

The title character was primarily portrayed by Matt Dallas. Dallas and Blue Hamilton dated for five years before getting married in 2015. Later on in the same year, they announced that they had adopted a child.

Ezra Miller

In 2008's Afterschool, Ezra Miller made their feature picture debut. Miller co-starred in The Perks of Being a Wallflower in addition to playing the lead in We Need to Talk About Kevin, allowing fans to see his flamboyant side. Not shortly after the film's debut, the young star came out as LGBT.

Richard Chamberlain

Chamberlain, who was 55 at the time, came out as gay in an article that was published in the French magazine Nous Deux in 1989. However, the actor wouldn't come out on his own terms until he released his autobiography, Shattered Love: A Memoir. He has since become more forthcoming about his romances.
